Case Study: Residential Front Room Home Remodel

The Vision

The Snyders wanted an entryway that was warm, welcoming, and uniquely theirs. They also hoped to improve functionality and flow by removing an oversized closet to expand the living room and side office (used as a music studio). Keeping the existing archway as a central feature was key. They wanted it to be the first thing guests noticed when they entered. Their goal was to create a space that let in more light, invited guests in, and set the tone for the rest of their home.

To do this, they explored front foyer design ideas and were drawn to a Transitional Mediterranean style.

Our Process

To bring their front foyer design ideas to life, we met with an architect to finalize drawings, confirm layout changes, and use a rendering software to create a detailed visual of the final space. This allowed the Snyders to see their ideas come to life before construction began, and we worked side by side to refine the details until everything felt just right.

We sourced a range of floor samples to capture that Mediterranean look, from stone tiles to colorful bricks. Our team worked with the homeowners to make the selection process as smooth as possible, keeping communication open so they felt confident and excited at every stage.

When the original stone tile selection was unexpectedly discontinued by the supplier, we quickly pivoted. We collected new samples, reviewed them with the homeowners, and found a replacement that still aligned perfectly with their vision. From there, we suggested a custom herringbone pattern to add dimension, draw attention to the archway, and guide guests inside.

Matching the new flooring to the existing wood floors in the music and living rooms required extra care, but we were able to create a seamless transition the family loved.

KSW managed every phase of the project, from demolition and framing to drywall and finishing details, giving the Snyders a single, trusted team to turn to throughout the process.

The Final Result

The completed residential front room home remodel features a newly centered archway framed in custom wood trim that immediately draws you in. Removing the original closet allowed for a larger living area and a more spacious music room. Finally, an industrial-style light fixture ties everything together, creating a cohesive entryway that feels both inviting and personal to the Snyder family. 

What made this project even more rewarding is the relationship we built along the way. From the first conversation to the final walk-through, our team collaborated closely with the Snyders.
